Junior B Championship Final
Fr McNamara Park: Truagh Clonlara 5-10 Parteen 1-9
Having already claimed the Division 4 League Title in August 2021 and an unbeaten run in the Junior B Championship, a determined Truagh Clonlara side overcame neighbours Parteen in the Junior B Championship Final in Fr McNamara Park on Saturday afternoon
This was a fantastic final with both teams giving it their all to get their name of the Margaret O'Regan Cup. The score-line did not reflect the titanic battle that took place, one needed to be there to experience how tough this competition was.
It was crucial to get a good start to the game and that was exactly what Truagh Clonlara did, with corner forward Niamh Ryan having a point on the board inside the first minute. They continued to pile on the pressure and found themselves ahead at the first water-break on a scoreline of Truagh Clonlara 1-5 Parteen 0-2. On the restart they picked up from where they left off, raising the green flag twice within four minutes. Parteen tried hard but the Truagh Clonlara goalkeeper and full back line stood firm and denied any serious attack to see the half time score Truagh Clonlara 3-7 Parteen 0-5.
Within two minutes of the restart, Niamh Power found the net, assisted by hat-trick hero Caroline Fitzgerald. Truagh Clonlara continued in the same passionate vein, every player, playing for each other. The middle third of the field was such an important area for Truagh Clonlara - the half-back line, mid-field and half-forward line worked tirelessly throughout the entire game providing a super platform for the inside line to do the damage. They hunted in packs and fought for every ball as if their life depended on it. Their accuracy of first touch and work rate around the field was a joy to watch and it was this that paid dividends to run out deserved winners on a score-line of Truagh Clonlara 5-10 Parteen 1-9.
