Junior A Shield Final
Fr McNamara Park: Corofin 4-12 Ruan 2-3
Corofin took on local neighbors Ruan in the Junior A Shield Final on Sunday in Fr McNamara Park which drew a large crowd. Corofin opened the scoring with the first point by Louise Browne. This followed shortly by an Aoibheann Malone point. Ruan fought back with a very well played hand passed goal from Lisa Whelan. Corofin then went on to score 1-4 without reply with scores from Lizzy Roche, Aoibheann Malone and Aleisha Malone. Corofin backs dominated with great performances form captain Corina McMahon, Amy O Brien and Ciara Heagny. The halftime score was Corofin 1-6 Ruan 1-1.
Ruan opened the second half with great determination. Following a scuffle around the goal, Alice Casey got the final touch to put the ball into the back of the Corofin net. This left the score at 1-6 to Corofin to Ruans 2-1. Following this Corofin took control of the game with Aoibheann Malone on fire scoring 1-4. Ruan then replied with 2 frees converted by Alice Casey. However Corofin would not let the game slip, and strong performances from Sinead Collins and Aoife Forde in the full back line should that Corofin would be leaving without the Shield. Lizzy Roches endurance paid off with two great points. Corofins last two scores of the day, raised the green flag with Sinead Lee and Aleisha Malone sealing the deal. Overall Corofin dominated the game with excellent performances from the two midfielders Louise Browne and Emer Keirce. Ruan were well served by Lisa Whelan, Alice Casey and Brenda O’Donoghue who led by example throughout, and made a wee bit of history as she was joined on the field of play by her three daughters Amy, Lauren and Sarah. After the game, Clare Camogie PRO presented the Hamilton Shield to Corofin captain Corina McMahon.
